The State Criminal Investigation Department is the apex investigation arm of the Lagos State command. The head of the department is the Deputy Commissioner of Police, who in turn report directly to Commissioner of Police on virtually all cases being handled by the department.

Furthermore, the department has a total number of Thirty-two (32) sections viz ;-
Monitor1:
Monitor 1 is the Eagle eyes of the department that is been put in place as a mechanism to see to the complaints emanated from the unprofessional conduct of menber of the force in the course of investigation at the Divisional and Area command level within the state.

General Administration:The section is responsible for day-to-day administrative activities of the Department
General Investigation:
Homicide: The Section investigates and Prosecutes cases involving Murder,Manslaughter and suspicious Deaths.
Intelligence, Surveillance & Monitoring:
Anti-Fraud: It’s embodied with the power to investigate, unravel the mystery of Fraudulent activities, Obtaining under false pretense by Cons and Organized Criminal Gangs.
X-Squad: The section is tasked with the crucial responsibility of overseeing and investigating complaints against police officers, ensuring that any misconduct or abuse of power is thoroughly addressed and such reported to the Cp for immediate sanctions. The section also investigate criminal cases
Human Right:
Legal: This section operates by giving Legal advice to the police authority, Prosecution of criminal cases, Defending of civil suits against the Police action,Supervision of the prosecutors, Teamwork with the Lawyers, Training of the prosecutors etc.
Anti-Robbery/Anti- Violent: Saddled with the responsibility of tackling the menace of robbery, civil unrest, and the maintenance of law and order in Lagos State.
Anti-Human Trafficking:
Conflict Resolution: As the name implies, it resolve avoidable and unavoidable conflicts between individuals and corporate entities, for peaceful coexistence of these entities.
TAX FRAUD / SIU-2:
Special Investigation Unit (SIU) is a dedicated section tasked with handling complex and high-risk investigations, often involving fraud, corruption, or other serious offences.
Anti-Vice Section is saddled with the following responsibilities; Enforcing laws and regulations related to vice, such as prostitution, human trafficking and drug abuse. It’s esablished to arrest , investigate, gather evidence, to support the allegations/information received and prosecute the perpetrators for the interest of justice, in which the perpetrators to serve as deterrent to others for the achievement of peaceful society
Anti-Vehicle Theft:
Forensic and Fingerprint section dully responsible for the following:
1 Profiling of suspects/crimes .
2. Analysis crime scenes
3. Crime data collections
4. Profiling of case file (s)
5. Biometric capturing.
6. Police character report.
Narctic: This section is responsible in dealings with all ILLICIT DRUGS with a view to eradicate or reduce such menance in our society.
Anti-Child Violence is saddled with the responsibility of investigating cases of child abuse, child Trafficking sexual offenses and other related cases of child maltreatment.
Special Enquiry Bureau: The section is saddled with the responsibility of investigating general criminal cases
Special Investigation Team B: It is responsible for investigation of criminal cases aside homicide and sexual cases and to charge suspects to court if the findings of the investigation proves there is a prima facie case against them.

Anti-Piracy: The secton is responsible for tracking the internet fraudsters and general investigation
Tracking Section:
The forensic Department was created at the State CID as branch of the Forensic Department Alagbon.
Function of these Departments are:
- To visit and process Crime Scene at the State level and collect Samples or exhibit in a correct manner to the Lab
- analysing and comparing forged Documents i.e Signature comparison
- Ballistic
- Fingerprint analysis and comparison to identify a suspect
- Creating suspect suspect fingerprint data base through the collection of suspects biometric
- Company profiling and checking of applicant for pending criminal matter through the suspects Database. The Department do trainings on forensic appreciation and use to first responder.
