HISTORICAL BACKROUND OF STATE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION DEPARTMENT, YABA LAGOS
The establishment of the State Criminal Investigation Department Musliu Smith Street, formerly Panti came into being when Lagos State was created in 1967. It however became operational in 1968. The State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti like any other C.I.D. is saddled with the responsibility of investigating serious crimes assigned to it by the Inspector General of Police, Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the zone and state Commissioner of Police, Lagos. These cases, to say the least, are cases that emanate from the state, that is Lagos State. The SCID-Yaba has priorities over the Area Commands and Divisional Headquarters located within the state. From available record, the first ACP to Head the department is ACPs. Olotu (from 1977 to1979).
Until 1986 when the status of the head changed to DCP, SCID, Panti was headed by any Assistant Commissioner of Police.
Crime Appraisal
- Defilement: On 12/01/2023, at about 1730hrs, a 12yrs old girl reported at Area ‘B’ Command that, in the month of November, 2022, her neighbour of 40yrs old threatened her with knife and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her twice inside his room. The case was transferred to SCID Yaba for further discreet investigation. In the course of investigation, the suspect admitted to the act. Status: The suspect has been charged to court.
- UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM: On 22nd January, 2023 at about 1600hrs, A male suspect did unlawfully possessed one (1) locally made Pistol and shot in the air, was arrested by the Operatives of the Command and one (1) locally made pistol was recovered. Status: The suspect was charged to court and remanded after detail investigation.
